Transportation Research Group

Advancing transportation systems to improve efficiency, resiliency, safety, and sustainability.

We are economists driven to improve transportation systems. We conduct research to inform stakeholders and policy makers. We develop applications, tools, and dashboards to support transportation operators. We educate students to drive the future of efficient, resilient, safe, and sustainable transport.

Freight Logistics

Transport is the critical link in supply chains, moving products to and from ports, off farms and from production facilities, between processing plants and warehouses, and ultimately to consumers. We support intermodal infrastructure planning and impact analyses. We evaluate competition to protect shippers and inform policy. We develop applications to improve freight efficiency. Much of this work is conducted through our Freight Policy Transportation Institute, with a long history of contributing to transport supply chain industry research and education.

Moving People

To work or school, to the grocery store or the doctor’s office, to friends or to dinner; moving people is central to commerce and our communities. We study travel behavior to improve the movement of people through improved safety, reduced congestion, smart parking policy, and increased access to transit. We evaluate system performance for passenger travel, including roadways, rideshare, transit, active mobility, and air travel. We support community mobility through transit routing, parking planning, and understanding community impacts of transportation infrastructure development.
